as a devout jehovah's witness, mrs. merle is prohibited from celebrating her birthday.
but a week from tomorrow, relatives and friends will flock to the camoset village country living mobile home park in johnstown to attend a super bowl party that just happens to feature ice cream and cake.. "that's why we're calling it a super bowl party," explained her son bob merle, 73, who lives just five trailers down the road.
"we don't celebrate birthdays, but we have to celebrate 100 years," said mrs. mechem, 78.
The bottom line for me is where are the Witnesses 'Bible trained conscience(s)'? This is not the Christian freedom spoken of by Paul and other NT writers. They load their oppinions - yes oppinions, on their fellow Christians and weigh them down like the Pharises did in Jesus day. Will they not be judged by Jesus as an individual? Or will the Govening body be present with each witness before Jesus? Its so madening and its making me fume!!
yes i'm new to this forum and i have been searching the net and reading with interest peoples comments here and on other sites.
as most know reaching out as a faithfull jw to others outside of the congregation is difficult at first ,as i guess we think anyone outside the congregation is wordly etc.
and we can't open up easily to "strangers" as jehovah would not approve.
Welcome here from me too , It is so true that with blanket statements all non JW's are 'worldly' and are to be feared. You have already realised this is not true and just as 'in' the organisation you will find loving and wicked people, its true for everyone else. It just takes time for the indoctrination to fade, maybe not all of it will, but it wont become such a problem to any of us as time goes by. I think the biggest thing is not taking in any more of the propagander the society uses to reinforce its belief structure on its members, in fact that is why so much emphasis is placed on doing 'theocratic' pursuits (things not required or mentioned in the Bible). If you stop taking it in, your mind returns slowly to its normal state where thinking and reasoning can prevail again.
since 99.9% of all jw's do not claim to have the holy spirit within them in what ways can they be spiritual people?.
a examination of 1 cor 2:10-15 raises some questions about jwism:.
1 cor 2:10-15 now god has revealed them to us by the spirit, for the spirit searches everything, even the deep things of god.
The funny thing is that being physical and not spritual (i.e. not annointed) none of the NT applies - and how can it? When it talks about being free of law and desires of flesh, yes if you are spiritual and of heavenly hope your old life dies, your physical one ends, yet this can't be true of those who are not annointed as per WT teaching. Therefore how can we display fruitage of that spirit, we would still be under law - whether as a Jew (The Law) or Gentile (law in hearts), it is so crazy how this has been twisted by the WT. Anyone who reads Roman's for example can see to even be Christian we need faith in Jesus death and would therefore be one of God's sons by means of his spirit. Where does it say about non annointed Christians? Where? If the vast majority would be non annointed how come there is no mention of them?
is there enough scriptural support for the beleif in a paradise here on earth?
i heard somebody say that there isn't.
i curious to here any other thoughts on this.
You hear Witnesses claim God's original purpose was for man to live forever on earth - there is no direct statement proving this the case. Interestingly note that Adam was denied to take of the fruit from the tree of life, in case he ate and lives forever. This same tree of life is mentioned in Rev 2 as has been quoted already showing it in heaven. So is it right to say if Adam had not sinned he would have lived forever, or is it that at that time he was just like the other living creature's around him and unless he was given life by means of this tree he would die? Did God therefore just prevent him from partaking thereby allowing him to die? I read a verse last night which said something along the lines of 'which was prepared for you from the begining' I cant recall where now though, sorry...anybody? It is is to 'add' assumptions without clear statements from the Bible to deny such thoughts.

Why is it that the Apostle Paul worked so as to provide for himself, and yet the society doesn't follow his biblical example? Can anyone site scritural support to my statement? I will try and look it up later too, thanks

raymond franz was a member of the governing body and was a jw for many years till he left.. he wrote a book which provides a great insight into jw's but what is really good about it is he isn't bitter when he comes across and so far i am really enjoying the read.. also in there are copies of letters sent from him to the society or the other way around and i recommend anyone who can find it should read it!.

i am only just into it and i am hooked.
I myself was reading the penultimate chapter last night (of my first read through of the book). It is a most interesting read and there are many that I'd love to show and get to read it also - respect for the way it is written. Ultimately when we are judged by Christ (if indeed we are) we wont be able to have the society next to us and say I did it cause they told me so, it will be our own actions that will be judged. Just like it wasnt an excuse in the Nazi war criminal trials to say they were ordered to do so - we each stand for ourselves, so the way control is laid out by that organisation as being 'our' christian conscience, is completely out of harmany with God's word.
at hebrews 10: 26,27 the bible warns those who would consider leaving christianity: "for if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgement and a fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
" is the bible trustworthy in saying that those who leave christianity are certain to experience a dread of judgement by god?
The verses in Hebrews refer to those annointed ones, who received holy sprit. Just read on a few verses to see this. I have never been one of these as the majority of Witnesses have not been according to their own belief structure, and yet any and all verses are applied equally to all Witnesses. Imagine if one was really annointed and recieved the spirit, the bible would take on new meaning, living a spiritual life instead of the fleshly one, and thats where the idea of making fleshly people follow laws to spirit annointed people fall down, the Law proved we could not keep it. To be a True Christian one would have to receive the holy spirit and your life is no longer for the flesh but to your spiritual body without the 'needs and desire's' of a fleshly body.
